have you ever poured water in the dark?
watched the water fill the cup by the moonlight
spilling through the kitchen window
have you ever watched your hand hold the cup
that holds the water
that bubbles in the dark light?

i did. and i don’t know what it means
but i watched it
and i noticed it
and i wondered what it meant
if it meant
if it would ever mean anything
if, in the grand scheme of life, it would ever mean
anything
